An Analysis of the Factors Influencing Paper Selection for Books of Reproduced Fine Art Printed on Digital Presses

Area: Color Workflow
Document # PICRM-2012-02

The purpose of this study was to understand and analyze the factors contributing to the selection of paper for books of reproduced fine art printed on digital presses. Toner-based digital presses are now capable of matching offset lithographic presses in both image and print quality. Current trends show that there is an increased interest in printing fine art books on digital presses. This research analyzed paper properties that maximize image quality and therefore influence the preference for digitally printed fine art reproductions. By extension, the papers rated as having the highest image quality and as being the most preferred would most likely be selected for use in books of reproduced fine art.
